VISA ASSESSMENT
A South African Retirement Visa can be issued to a foreign national who is looking to either retire permanently in South African or on a seasonal basis. It is valid for up to four years and is considered a temporary residency category of visa. It can also be an ideal option for business persons not wanting to work in South Africa, but wanting to live in the country for part of the year. It is a multiple entry visa, and is extendable.
There is no age limit to be able to apply for the Retirement Visa. However this is likely to change soon with recommendations that an age limit should be introduced.
Applicants must be able to show "passive income" or a pension / retirement annuity of at least R37, 000 per month to qualify.
Applicants must be aware that only certain types of income can be used for the purposes of qualifying for a Retirement Visa. The value of pensions, retirement annuities, rental income, and interest income are sources of income that can be used.
