WHAT IS A RELATIVES VISA?

The Relatives Visa is a temporary residence visa good for up to two years. This visa applies to first and second level kinship family members.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR A RELATIVES VISA?

A foreigner who is a first or second level kinship family member of a South African citizen or Permanent Resident can apply to join him or her in South Africa. Applicants applying for the first time must do so whilst still in their country of residence.

WHAT ARE THE LIMITATIONS OF THE RELATIVES VISA?

The Relatives Visa provides an allowance to apply for Permanent Residency, but it does not allow the Relatives Visa holder to apply for work, business, or study whilst in South Africa.

IMPORTANT RULES TO QUALIFY FOR A RELATIVES VISA

1. The Foreign applicant must have an immediate family member who is a South African Citizen or Permanent Resident.
2. The South African Citizen or Permanent Resident of the foreign applicant must show proof of income or assets of at least R8, 500 per month.
3. Foreign applicant must provide proof of kinship to South African Citizen or Permanent Resident.
4. Foreign applicant must provide a valid birth certificate.
