It has become evident that a Remote Working Visa will be introduced in South Africa and the only real question is when it will happen.
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) recently briefed the Western Cape Government on this matter. According to DHA they recently provided President Ramaphosa with a report which considered a review of the immigration system in South Africa. Included in this report was a recommendation for the introduction of a Remote Working Visa as this would assist with economic growth. Furthermore, DHA advised that they were on course to detail the requirements for the Remote Working Visa by June 2023.
It is expected that at the same time as the requirements for the Remote Working Visa are released an additional visa that deals with Start Up technology businesses will also be released. There appears to be some impetus with regards to the work that is being done with regards to these new visa categories which is encouraging.
